Anatoliy Vapirov studied Clarinet at the Saint Petersburg Conservatoire and attended a master class of saxophone in 1977. From 1976 to 1982 he taught saxophone at the Saint Petersburg Conservatoire. A well-established jazz performer, he played with eminent jazz musicians at festivals in Bulgaria, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, Russia, the USA, Switzerland and Denmark. Most of his compositions were released on LP and CD. He also composed film music.

He is artistic director of the international jazz festival Varna Summer.

In Memoriam Oratorio after a fairytale by Hristo Smirnenski (1987-98); Concerto grosso for symphony orchestra and jazz quintet (1988).

Concerto for clarinet and string orchestra (1982).
