Nikolay Dobrinov graduated from the Academy of Music and Dance Art in Plovdiv (1986). He studied Composition under Konstantin Ilievsky and Professor Simeon Pironkoff. He worked as music editor at the Bulgarian National Television (1977-78), the Bulgarian National Radio (1990). He also was member of the orchestra of the Chamber Opera of Blagoevgrad (1981-82), member of the Orchestra of the Bulgarian Armed Forces (1986-88), senior music expert at the Department of Culture of the Sofia Municipal Council (1988-90). Since 1990 he has been a freelance teacher of violin and music theory, leader of children’s vocal groups, etc.

He has opuses in a variety of genres: musical plays; orchestral and chamber music; children’s songs; music to theatre performances, etc. His works were performed in Italy, Russia, Slovakia, Canada, France, Mexico and Germany. He recorded for the Bulgarian National Radio and the Bulgarian National Television.

For wind orchestra:

Bigh Suite for big wind orchestra (1980-1993); Reminiscences for piano and big wind orchestra (2001); Daychovo horo (Bulgarian traditional ring dance called Daychovo Horo) (2002).

For string orchestra:

Three Pieces for string orchestra and percussion (1986); Miniatures on a Bulgarian Theme (1988); Fantasy (1998); Triptych for clarinet and string orchestra after Pencho Slaveykov (2001); Two Rhythmic Variations for violin and string orchestra (2001).

Chamber music:

Sonata for viola (1980); Three pieces for flute and oboe (1984); Variants I for clarinet and piano (1986); Variants II for a quintet ensemble including clarinet, violin, viola, bassoon and double bass (1995); Two pieces for solo violin – Song and Rachenitza (Bulgarian traditional dance in 7/8 time beat) (2001).
