Angel Kotev graduated from the State Academy of Music (BA and MA) in 1977 majoring in Composition under Professor Alexander Raychev.
He composed in a wide variety of genres: a ballet, a symphony and other works for symphony orchestra; chamber, vocal, jazz, film, children’s music. Most of his works were performed and recorded by the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra and published in collections in Bulgaria and abroad. His ballet The Barrier was performed by the Arabesque Ballet. Bulgarian Rhapsody was commissioned by the US conductor Yang Haw Pak for the Youth Orchestra of California and performed in numerous concerts in the USA (1977). He has four LPs, one including his symphonic poem The Surviving Tetraevangel (1981) and other three featuring the electroacoustic works Midnight Mood No 1 (1985) and No 2 (1988), as well as Steps (1990). The Song collection To Children With Love was released on audiocassette and CD.
