Milen Panayotov graduated from the State Academy of Music in 1997 majoring in Composition under Professor Dimitar Tapkov and Conducting under Professor Miroslav Popsavov. From 1997 to 1998 he conducted the St. Yosif Chamber Choir at the Catholic Church in Sofia. He also conducted the chamber choir Asho at the Bulgarian Jewish Youth Organisation.

In 1989 he won the third prize at the Young Instrumentalists Competition in Sofia. In 1994 he won the Nikola Stefanov Award (1994). In 2000 he left Bulgaria.
