Krum Tabakov graduated from the State Academy of Music in 1961 majoring in Composition under Professor Pancho Vladigerov. He worked as a composer and music artistic director of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre (1966-85).

He wrote original music as well as multiple musical settings to theatre performances for the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, the Bulgarian Army Theatre, etc. He collaborated with the Bulgarian National Radio and the Bulgarian National Television. He also composed vocal music, pieces for piano, etc.
