Petar Krumov graduated from the State Academy of Music in 1957 majoring in Choral Conducting under Professor Georgi Dimitrov. In 1956-57 he became Philip Koutev‘s student at the State Ensemble for Traditional Song and Dance in Sofia (the today’s Philip Koutev National Folklore Ensemble). In 1957 he moved to the Dobroudja Ensemble and led it up to 1982. Then he worked with Silistra Ensemble (1982-88). He gave over 1,000 concerts in Bulgaria and abroad. He was member of the international jury of the traditional music festivals in Zagreb (1968) and Vihodna (1976).

His professional involvement with traditional music made him focus on the authentic music and its professional arrangement. He composed over 600 songs and instrumental pieces; choral and solo songs; orchestral works; theatre music. His music was recorded on 15 LPs and audiocassettes. He won golden medals at the national traditional music competitions (1959, 1964, 1969 and 1984). He was prizewinner at the Songs about the Sea Festival (1989), too.

He published folksong collections, wrote articles, notices, etc.

Vesel da e horovoda (The Dance Must Be Cheerful) (1973); Our Earth (1980); Two Songs from the Eastern Balkan (1983); Three Songs In Mi for voice and traditional music orchestra (1992).
