Dimitar Hristov graduated from SMU “Filip Kutev” in 1995 with a major in tambourine, and in 2001 a master’s degree in choral and orchestral conducting of folk ensembles at the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in the city of Plovdiv.
In the period 1999-2006, he worked as a choir conductor at FA “Trakia” – Plovdiv.
He taught “Orchestral Conducting”, “Instrumental Studies” and “Singing in a Folk Choir” at AMTII from 2003 to 2006.
From March 2006 to September 2008, he was the Chief Artistic Director of the Ensemble “Pirin” – Blagoevgrad.
Director of the Festival of the Macedonian urban and author’s song “Macedonia Folk” in 2006 and 2007, he was awarded the audience award in 2006 and the grand award in 2007.
He is also the director of the International Festival of the works of Diko Iliev “Aleno Mushkato” – Oryahovo.
Since January 2009, Dimitar Hristov is the composer of the Drama Theater “Nikola Vaptsarov” – Blagoevgrad.
In May 2009, he became the chief conductor of the Trakia Ensemble – Plovdiv, and since October 2011, he has been the conductor of the Folk Music Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio, where he quickly became one of the main factors of the folk genre.
He is the author of numerous vocal-instrumental works and dance, film and theater music for various ensembles such as National Ballet of Russia “Igor Moiseev”; National Orchestra of Russia “N. I. Osipov”; Russian Academic Concert Orchestra “Boyan”; Russian Concert Orchestra “Guslari Rossii”, DT “Nikola Vaptsarov” – Blagoevgrad; the ensembles “Trakiya”, “Pirin”, “Severnyashki”, “Pazardjik”, “Madara”, “Sunny Beach”, ONM of BNR, Eva Quartet, Bulgara, Diva Reka and many others.
In 2014, he specialized in conducting at the National Music and Pedagogical Institute “N. M. Ipolitov-Ivanov” in Moscow under the chief conductor of “Helikon Opera” Vladimir Ponkin and the chief conductor of “Guslari Rossii” Maxim Yevtushenko.
Dimitar Hristov is the winner of the “Crystal Lyre” for 2016 in the “Musical Folklore” section of the SBMTD.
One of the creators of the Bulgara and Diva Reka ethno formations.
Member of the management board of the Bulgarian Music Association.
Corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
Member of the Union of Bulgarian Music and Dance Artists and of MusicAutor.
Since 2015, he has been a member of the Union of Bulgarian Composers.
