Prof. Rosemary Statelova, doctor of art studies, was born in 1941 in the city of Varna. In 1962, she graduated from the State Academy of Music in Sofia. In the period 1962-1965, she was a music teacher at the Institute for Children’s Teachers in Vratsa. From 1968 until today, she is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Composers, “Musicologists” section.
Music designer at Bulgarian National Television in the period 1969-1973. From 1973 to 1983 she worked at the Institute of Culture.
In 1980, she defended her first doctorate in philosophy and sociology.
From 1983 to 2010, she worked as a musicologist at the Institute for the Study of Arts – BAS. In 1987 – first habilitation: associate professor (specialist in Musicology and Musical Art), and in the period 1994-2007 she was the head of the “Ethnomusicology” section at the Institute for the Study of Arts at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (III-BAS).
In 1995, Prof. Rosemary Statelova was a visiting professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin; for 19 years (1990-2009) she taught the subject “Musical culture” at SU “St. Cl. Ohridski” (faculty of journalism), Technical University – Sofia, Academy of Music and Dance Art – Plovdiv, Varna Free University.
In 1996, she defender a second doctorate (in art studies); 1997 – second habilitation: professor; 2005 – visiting professor at the University of Paderborn, Germany.
From 2000 to today, she is a member of the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM), “Music and Minorities” section, in the period 2005-2015 she is the representative for Bulgaria in ICTM; from 2010 to today she is an associate member of the “Ethnomusicology” section at III-BAS.
