Tatyana Toncheva graduated from the State Academy of Music in 1976 majoring in Music Pedagogy. In 1976-78 she worked as a teacher of Solfeggio, Traditional Music and Piano and concurrently conducted the representative school choir of the music high school in Kotel. In 1978-94 she conducted professional traditional music orchestras of the traditional song and dance ensembles Graovo and Graovska Mladost in Pernik. In 1988 she won the prize for style performance at the First Festival of the Professional Traditional Music Orchestras in Kalipetrovo, region of Silistra. In 1994-2001 she taught music at primary schools in Sofia and conducted the children’s vocal ensemble Kukuriache. From 1997 to 2001 she took regularly part in the national competition Zlaten Izvor (Golden Spring) in Dimitrovgrad. In 2002 she joined the staff of the Faculty of Primary and Preschooler Pedagogy at Sofia University as a lecturer in Music Pedagogy.

She wrote children’s songs, folksong arrangements published in the collections Traditional Choirs and Ensembles (1975-90). She also composed the score to the shows Todor’s Day and Celebration in Zagore (in co-authorship with Ivan Tonchev), songs for soloists, traditional music choir and traditional music orchestra, etc. Some of them were awarded prizes at national competitions.
