Andrey Drenikov graduated from the State Academy of Music majoring in Violin under Professor Boyan Lechev. Still at high school he played the first violin and was soloist in chamber orchestras, conducted by Emil Chakarov, Emil Tabakov, Emil Yanev. As a student, he founded the Drennikov Quartet, which existed up to his graduation; he also played the first violin at the Student Academic Symphony Orchestra. In 1973 he worked at the Plovdiv Philharmonic. From 1975 to 1977 he was first violin of the Mladost Variety Orchestra at the Ensemble of the Bulgarian Armed Forces’ Construction Troops, where he did his military service. Up to 1981 he played in the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra. For three years he worked as animator of the Music Shop Show on the Bulgarian National Television. He also animated the radio programme In the Music Studio of BNR. From 1994 to 2000 he worked at the Centre for Children Activities at the Municipality of Liulin in Sofia.

He won recognition as improviser, singer, violinist, pianist, drama actor, showman and author of the great part of the lyrics to his songs. He began to compose music in a variety of genres since early age. His works include hundreds of children’s, theatre and pop songs, theatre music to over 110 performances in Sofia and all over the country, etc. He composed the music to lots of radio and television novels, films, plays and other programmes. He played his own music at hundreds of concerts. He was awarded prizes for theatre music, more than 40 prizes for children’s music and prizes for pop music at pop festivals. He is the author of a ballet fairytale, pieces for violin, piano, violoncello and other instrumental compositions.
