Marin Valchanov graduated from the State Academy of Music in 1973 majoring in Bassoon under Professor Hristo Proshkov. Studied Composition under Professor Pencho Stoyanov and Professor LazarВ Nikolov. In 1971 he joined the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra as soloist-group leader. In 1974 he was prizewinner at the 6th National Competition for Singers and Instrumentalists. In 1977 he joined the staff of the State Academy teaching Bassoon and in 1998 was promoted full professor. He has had an active concert activity in Bulgaria and abroad as soloist and performer of chamber music. He has been involved with the Academic Wind Quintet including leading wind instruments professors of the State Academy of Music. The ensemble has a rich repertoire. Several Bulgarian composers dedicated works to it.

He composed two chamber operas; orchestral music; chamber works; songs; film scores, etc. His compositions and particularly the chamber instrumental ones were performed in Europe, Asia, the USA and Latin America. In 1988 he took part in the Decade of the Bulgarian Culture in Germany.

Chamber operas:
“Faith” for soprano, female voices choir, children’s choir and instrumental ensemble (1995);

“Test” for symphony orchestra (2006);
“The Curious Dialogue” for flute, oboe and orchestra (2008);

“Impulses” for bassoon and strings (2012);
“Salute” for brass quintet (2 trumpets, 2 French horns, trombone) and symphony orchestra (the work is dedicated to the Academy of Music – 2014).

Capriccio for violin and orchestra (1982);
Dialogues N2 for four French horns and orchestra (1995).

Chamber Music:
