Albena Vrachanska is the granddaughter of the original composer Andrei Vrachanski. He participated as a child composer in the “Banner of Peace” International Assembly in 1979 and then studied with Plamen Djurov. He graduated from the “Panayot Pipkov” Music School in Pleven with piano and the Music Academy in Sofia with composition. From 1996 he settled in Luxembourg, where he studied modern compositional techniques, musical analysis and computer music with Claude Lehners. In his work there are over 600 works of various genres, some of which have been published by Schott Music International, Editions Octanphare and Luxembourg Music Publishers. She is also a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (l’Ordre de Mérite du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg). Winner of Silver Medal of L’UNION SAINT PIE X, Silver Medal of ’UNION GRAND-DUC ADOLPHE. Albena Vrachanska is the artistic director of the “New Classic Stage” Festival and of “Les Concerts du Foyer Européen” in Luxembourg. He is a member of the Board of Directors of FLAC (Federation of Luxembourg Composers). She is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Composers.
Albena Vrachanska realized herself as a composer thanks to a dedicated and thorough attitude to her vocation, despite the difficulties that accompany the life of an emigrant, especially in the first years. Learns 5 foreign languages to handle communication. In 2001 he composed the music for the music book “When the piano is angry” (Wann de Piano rose gidde), published by CID Femmes and PHI.
2007 was particularly successful for Albena Vrachanska – her composition for electric guitar and instrumental ensemble “Gladius” was commissioned for the event “Cultural Year 2007 – Luxembourg and Region”; she was also awarded the “Culture Award, 2007” of the Municipality of Esperange; is a member of the jury of the “Valentino Bucci” International Composition Competition in Rome (Italy).In 2010, the Luxembourg Philharmonic premiered her interdisciplinary project “The Return of the Butterflies” (Le Retour des Papillons), combining original music, pantomime, light effects and video elements, while 2011 she dedicated to her complex pedagogical project – musical theater for children “Bunny in Love” and an illustrated music book with a CD. The same year he composed “To meet a bird” (for violin and piano) and “Magnifico” (concert piece for trombone and ensemble). In 2013-14 he created numerous chamber works and piano pieces, the Symphonic Overture “Blinking” was commissioned by the prestigious Luxembourg Symphony Orchestra – ORL. The Symphonic Poem “Melusina, the Mystical Image” was commissioned and performed by the MODUS 21 Orchestra in Graz, Austria. Her opera “The Darkness” after its premiere in Luxembourg by UNITED INSTRUMENTS OF LUCILIN received invitations to festivals in Bulgaria, Kosovo and Spain. His next opera – a monodrama based on the libretto by Peter Tabit Jones, he calls Musical Fresco “Ermesinde’s Long Walk”. The following is the opera diptych “Love and Jealousy” commissioned by the Stara Zagora State Opera, with the premiere on 15.05.2018 being met with great enthusiasm by the participants artists. Dedicated to SOFIA SOLOISTS “Double concerto for baritone saxophone, piano and string orchestra”.
She is currently working on a new opera.
Until 2019, Albena Vrachanska has two author’s CDs: “CRYSTAL DREAM” for solo piano, released under the label GEGA in 2016, with artist Romain Nosbaum and “THÉ VOYAGER”, released under SOLO.de in March 2019 with performers Veronika Nosbaum – soprano and Romain Nosbaum – piano.
Many of her works have been performed in the USA, Brazil, Australia, Andorra, Germany, Russia, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Denmark, Austria, Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece , Kosovo, Poland and Bulgaria.
Albena Petrovic-Vrachanska is the founder and president since 2009 of the International Composition Competition Artistes en Herbe (Beginner Artists), organized with the support of the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture). This competition is unique in Western Europe with its regulation, which is intended for children and young composers in the JUNIOR section and for writing pedagogical works in the SENIOR section.
